As this year's IM Wisconsin gets closer, so does the sign-up for next year. One of the goals I set while on the sidelines at IMLP was to have a training "system" put together before I even sign up for next year’s race. So as of today I have about five weeks to get this done. I hope to use this thread as a brain dump, and a place where I can organize my thoughts. ...
Okay, we've all seen and many of us have purchased compression garments. You may have used them and actually felt a difference, or you may have used them and just mentally told yourself that it was making a difference. At first, I was skeptical of these compression garments. I didn't see how they could make much of a difference in either training or recovery. Sure, I heard the concept of "flushing" lactic acid from your ...

my fellow teammate Asher! Yes, Asher picked up a beer a mile out, drank some, waited for a teammate and finished while drinking it. A triathlete true to the 4th discipline of drinking beer for recovery...
I have been reading a lot about hydration, muscle cramping, sodium intake, and other activities related to triathlon and our nutrition at Joel Friel's blog. Joel Friel is an expert in the field and a USAT Level III coach. He has also written the Training Bible and the quintessential book on Ironman training and racing, Going Long.

I thought this was a good article about life after the Ironman, and also discusses how to get back to training depending on your upcoming race schedule..
Here's a good review/preview of the LP course (aka IMUSA) from EnduranceNation.com with race tips tailored for this particular course. I have to admit I'm guilty of violating some of this advice in past races and paid for it dearly just as they predict. I wish I had seen this then (or at least I wish I had listened to that advice back then.)
Has anyone tried Carbo Pro 1200? It's a proprietary blend of simple carbs that contains 1200 calories a bottle. Training for Ironman Lake Placid and thinking about what I need on the bike, this sounds appealing! I'm planning on a concentrate mix anyway supplemented with water.
It's probably a little late for my race in 2 weeks as I haven't tried it on long rides training but I would like to check it out for ...
I found great live race coverage on Versus for those of us that have to work during the day! Check out the Versus Live Race Coverage. The tdf is a really exciting tour, even though it's not a triathlon. ;)
I subscribe to Joel Friel's blog and found the following post that was sent to me on Question on Sports Drinks very interesting. I'm not changing my nutrition right now before IMLP but it's interesting to think about.
------------------------------------------- Question on Sports Drinks Posted: 01 Jul 2009 07:03 AM PDT I just received a great question from a coach about what he should tell the athletes he coaches about sodium and protein in sports drinks ...
