My first Ironman race is just 13 days away (so exciting that I’m no longer counting weeks, but now days!). If you could give me only one piece of advice, what would it be? Thank you!
I recenlty completed my first sprint triathlon and wondered what people did about socks on the bike portion of the race(or the run for that matter)? I told myself I would watch what others did but then in the heat of the moment did not. I know that some say wear socks, some say don't worry, some say don't try it at the race, ect. When I came out of the swim I tried to ...
We've all heard people say that "everyone's a winner". Well, doesn't that tend to reduce the accomplishments of those that did really well? In Joel Friel's blog Everyone's a Winner, he discusses this concept and how it's changed endurance events. He argues that much of this has been because of the push for distance.
Instead of people running shorter events like a 5k or 10k and working on getting faster, runners "have" to run a ...
I am beginning to feel what I call the "Taper Angst." With a little over two weeks to go my training volume has decreased the intensity has decreased, and I'm slowly getting more tired! I hate this! BTW, since I don't have to train as much, I've started to watch some pretty silly movies like, Channing Tatum's Fighting, freaking terrible!
Okay, well I guess my taper isn't as bad as Nikki P's, she got strep ...
Usain Bolt absolutely kicked butt at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. I find these videos absolutely amazing. This guy is dominating his sport. Check out the videos below:
There's a debate out there whether bikes should be considered the same as cars on the road. I ride a lot on the roads and with traffic having just finished an ironman, I spent quite a few hours on roads riding through multiple cities in Metro-Detroit. I also live in downtown Detroit so I spend a lot of time cycling in fairly heavy traffic downtown.
I know we often yell to irate drivers that "we're ...
Check out this website on the perfect smooth swim stroke. It's a great video to see the perfect swim stroke and view what you should be doing. I think it's excellent for beginners or someone looking for what they need to do. As my friend Andre said, "Remember, the greatest form of unconscious learning is observation."
Are there any new or beginner triathletes out there? How did you get started or haven't you started yet? Post some questions or introduce yourself in our Introduction forum.
There's one thing about being a triathlete. We all like sharing information and for the most part we're all students of the sport. I know everyone on these forums are always very helpful so don't be shy!
We also just enabled guest posting so if you're ...
Here's my situation. I have been training for triathlons for about 2 and a half years now and have just finished my first Ironman. I'm now trying to figure out what I should do for the rest of this season in order to get ready for Ironman Wisconsin in 2010. I don't really care about doing any other races this year but if it fit into my schedule, it would be cool to do the ...
As my own race is rapidly approaching in 38 days, I find myself thinking about strategies and the like. Although I have been working and refining my plan for Moo 09, I have some thoughts that I would like to get input on. For example, there is a saying that the race comes down to the run. That being said and not taken lightly, the reality of this distance is that regardless of your plan ...
