First Triathlon Experience

Recently I had the pleasure to compete in my very first triathlon in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. Even though it was just a sprint race it was still a lot of work. There was a lot of wind during the swim forcing everyone to swim into the waves which I was not anticipating at all, I wasn't really accustomed to that sort of swimming in competition quite yet. As you all know Wisconsin is said to ...

Hello!

Hi All,
I'm another newbie to the site and from the looks of it, Triathlon is truly a growing sport! I was really glad to find a site like this to connect with local triathletes at all experience levels. Motor City will be my first triathlon (Olympic) and I'm planning to participate in the Steelhead 70.3 in July. I know it's a bit of a stretch but my goal above all is to have fun ...

Motor City Triathlon Water Temp

I'm doing the motor city triathlon and am concerned about the water temps. I've only done triathlons on the Gulf coast, this is my first time up north. I hate cold water in the first place, but I'm afraid the river will be frigid.

I'm lining up a QR full wetsuit from a buddy, but am still concerned. Do I need a cap or gloves or anything else?

New to Detroit

Hello all, I'm new to the area, just moved from Pensacola, FL and live in Royal Oak just north of Detroit.

I'm 29 and ran distance (track & cross country) competitively through high school and college. I picked up cycling a few years ago and enjoyed it more than running, and I've always been a strong swimmer, so I figured triathlons would be a natural progression.

So far I've done 3 sprints and one olympic ...

Ride a Bike, Power a Hotel

This is great! I got the link to this article from Bicycling Mag on twitter (@bicyclingmag)

Ride a Bike, Power a Hotel

If you ride one of its new electricity-generating exercise bikes long enough to generate 10 watt hours or more of electricity (not long), you get a free meal worth about $45.

The bikes have iPhones on the handlebars that can tell you how much power is being produced and fed into the hotel. ...
