I was thinking about checking this out, but wanted to know if anyone else on here uses Fraser's lab http://fraserbicycle.com/articles/watta ... -pg180.htm and how their experience went? Did you go there on your own or did you use one of the "coaches"?
I rode in the lab for the first time last weekend. There was a group of us there, including some Detroit Iron members. It was a really fun way to spend 3+ hours on a bike indoors. The system provides you with lots of valuable data. I think the most important info provided is your watts/kg. How many watts you're putting out really gives you a good idea of where you are with your strengh and fitness. It's also fun to measure yourself against others, even if you already know they are faster or slower ... it is entertaining and useful. It also seems that the group athmosphere makes you worker harder than you would if you were riding alone.
Other nice aspects of the lab including the following: music playing loud and clear while you ride, personal fans, employees that are very helpful in getting you set up, answering questions, and even checking to see if you need water refills. Finally, there are showers for when you're done!
I have used the Computrainers at Fraser multiple times with groups and love it. They have the best setup I have seen for a training lab. I've also done one coached training session, which was good. I know some other guys on the forums have done the coaching including Mike Freedland?
I'm a big fan of Fraser. Tony handles all of the training and Ron is the main upstairs in the shop. You should definitely check it out. Call them up and tell Tony that Jared from Detroit Iron sent you. He'll set you up.
I think doing the weekly coaching classes would be a great way to get better on the bike and stay in shape during the Winter.
You can also use the lab for a power fit on your bike. They will hook you up to the computer, look at your watts/kg, tweak a few things on the bike, and see if it makes a difference in your watts/kg. Things they tweak are seat position and angle, length of bike (including handle bars and stem) to see how stretched out you can be for optimal power, etc. I personally have not done it, but it's definitely on my wish list!!
I've cycled on the computrainers as well and love it! Another thing on my wish list is to use it on a regular basis, but living on measley student loans just doesn't allow that
Yes I have used their lab. I was very impressed, but the drive time is HUGE! So, I bought a CompuTrainer from Ron and he built a platform for me. They are VERY accommodating. If you need any bicycle gear or a bicycle, I would have to recommend them!
As far as the training portion, I worked with Tony, but last year they were not quite up to speed. Tony told me, though, that this year Fraser has more personnel and they have perfected their system. Again, I do not think that you could go wrong using Fraser.
I am pretty sure that they give the TNT teams discounts, which on the high-priced gear comes in handy.
