Hello,
I want to do a triathlon but have never done one yet. I am basically just researching and trying to get all the information I can. Hope I can get some good info from this site. Looks like there are already some good tips. :)

Erin, welcome! Thanks for signing up for the forums. There's a lot of great people here that you can learn from.

Looking to do your first triathlon? That's really exciting! You have a fair amount of information to learn but you've come to the right place. Do you live in Southeast Michigan?

Have you done any running, biking or swimming in the past? It's definitely not required but it's good to know where you're starting. We have a lot of training opportunities in metro-Detroit and a lot of helpful people that love sharing information on tris.

As I recommended to Bob, you should check out Team In Training Michigan. Most of us did our first triathlon through TnT. They make it easy by providing coaches (including an excellent swim coach), a plan, and a race venue that's paid for (think sun and fun). You raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as part of it. There's a lot of support for the fund-raising and training and a lot of great people.

If we can get Bridget from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to post on here, maybe she'll send you the next informational meeting information. It might be later this Fall.

Hi Erin! Welcome to the the world of triathlons! I have to agree with Jared that Team In Training (TnT) is a great way to start. I did my first (and only, I guess) tri with TNT last year. I have always been a runner, had never ridden a road bike, and only knew how to doggie paddle! I loved training for the tri because it mixed up the workouts. I've been quite busy with school since my first tri, but I plan on doing it again with TnT this Fall. You should definitely look into it! There will be a lot of veterans this year, but we are always excited to meet new people and show them the ropes.

I look forward to meeting you sometime!
