Hi my name is Eric, my zodiac sign is cancer, i like quite walks along the beach, romantic candle lit dinners, and in my spare time i swim, bike, and run a long ways. I think I am an addict.
Jokes aside, okay well maybe I wasn’t kidding but anyway…I digress. I started training for triathlons in 2004 after finishing graduate school and moving back to Michigan from Florida. I have always been comfortable in the water, but I had never swum competitively, nor had I ever received formal swim training. Therefore, over that summer while studying for the bar exam, I attempted to teach myself how to swim. Wow, what a serious problem. No one told me you had to breathe out underwater. Wtf? So after some “trial by fire” I entered my first race the very next year, the Ann Arbor Triathlon. My first half mile swim was 24 minutes. No lie. I biked well and ran well, but I had a lot of work to do. I spent the rest of that summer doing sprints and eventually was “coerced” by my training partner Jerod to sign up for IM Wisconsin in 2006. Since then I have done Wisconsin twice and Lake Placid once. Each time is a new experience and a learning experience at that. I will be racing Wisconsin again in 2009 and 2010. Madison is my favorite place to train and race and it shows.
In addition, I have joined a group of ordinary people doing extraordinary things in the name of charity and goodness. In 2009, we established Detroit Iron, a team that we are still building and hope to bring a large contingent to Wisconsin in 2010. Please contact us if you have any questions or interests in joining.
