Rcknrbn's Introduction

Postby rcknrbn » Fri Sep 25, 2009 9:01 am

What is your name?
Robin Spaulding

What brings you to Detroit Triathlon?
Met a few of your team members at IMWI 09 (Cool shirts!) We were there to volunteer and sign up for IMWI '10 (will be first IM).

How long have you been doing triathlons or are you just starting?
On and off the past 6 years or so. Mostly Duathlons the past few years due to shoulder problems and time restrictions. Two personal goals to accomplish before my 50th birthday are to run Boston and complete an IM. Knocked off Boston a few years ago and IMWI will be one week before my 50th birthday.

How did you get started?
Running injuries led me to start cycling, then dabbled in few sprints and now completed a few 70.3's.

What was your last race and what's your A race for this year?
Lake Geneva 70.3 in 2009, had a sore hamstring and a bad wing but survived. :-)

What's your best/favorite triathlon leg?
I've been a runner for 20 years but enjoy getting better on the bike.

What's your worst triathlon leg?
Swim, looking forward to a winter/spring of vast improvement.

Where do you do most of your trainings?
Hines Park for most of the bike and run, Livonia Rec Center for swim.

What would you like to find/see/do/explore this season?
Get better in the water and spend more time in the saddle.

What do you like to do when you're not training for triathlons?
Be with my family, listening/collecting music and doing anything outdoors.

Tell us a good triathlon story:
My first 70.3 was in Oscoda (2004?), made reservations at a local hotel months in advance and when we showed up the building was half burned down. There was a worker cleaning up and he mentioned they were still open for business. We luckily found another place to stay, no vacancy sign on the door but after waiting until 7pm (the night before the race no less) someone eventually canceled and we got a room.

Anything else?Jared
Looking forward to meeting new tri training friends.

Robin! It's great to see you on the forums. Even though I wasn't at Wisconsin this year, I will be doing IM WI in 2010 with the group! It's going to be a great year for training with all of the new people we have. I'm looking forward to it.

Welcome!
Jared

Robin, welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your triathlon experiences. You will absolutely love Madison as your first IM. As you witnessed as a spectator, the race is amazingly well supported and the city is absolutely beautiful, imagine what it will be like as one of the participants! You are going to have a blast! Happy training!

Talk about a great way to ring in a new birthday! You will love the IMMOO course. Madison is my hometown so I may be partial... but it's great out there. TONS of fans and the scenery is beautiful. I'm glad you'll be joining us!

Hi Robin,

Welcome! I also do a lot of riding and running on Hines and swim at the Rec Center in Livonia. Let me know if you're ever looking for a training partner.
