Have you ever been to Michigan's UP? Want to do a stellar race on the shores of Lake Superior?
The Kuparisaari Triathlon is back for its second year! Pronounced KOO-puh-ree SAH-ree, this is the only half-iron distance triathlon in the UP, and takes place in Michigan's beautiful and scenic Keweenaw Peninsula. The race takes place mid-August, and is one heck of a good time.
The race will be held on August 14th, 2011, in Lac La Belle, Michigan, which is about 8hrs from metro-Detroit. Sure, it's a hike, but its totally worth it. Bring some friends or take the family on a Great Northern vacation. Come up and stay for a long weekend or the week! Lodging options are available in Houghton, Hancock, Calumet and Copper Harbor. Extended stay cabins are available across the Keweenaw, and group lodging options are also available. Or, you can camp!
The swim is an inland lake 1.2mile swim, the bike is a single loop course with few turns and some rolling hills, and the run is half-flat on pavement and half-hilly on gravel fire road. The course offers the best scenery in the Keweenaw, with lots of Lake Superior views. It's not easy, but that's not the point, right? You can relax on the beaches of Lake Superior afterward!
We hope to see you and your fellow triathlon club members at this year's race. Registration is available through Superior Timing (http://kuparitri.com/doit_main.html). Team registration discounts are also available.
