T-Rex Triathlon - Island Lake (8/19)

Postby jared » Tue Aug 18, 2009 12:05 pm

RunningFit is hosting a triathlon on Island lake, which quite a few people I know are doing. It looks like a good sprint triathlon with a .5 mile swim, a 12.4 mile bike, and a 3.1 mile run.

The interesting part about this triathlon is that it's hosted on Wednesday August 19th at 6:30PM. Island lake is a great place for a tri. Check out details at T-Rex Triathlon - Island Lake.

Are you doing the race? Reply and let us know! Let's get a group to meet up. There are plans for food and drinks after.

I will be there! Looking forward to a great event. I received the following note from Running Fit. Looks like a great group is heading out with over 500 people on a Wednesday night. Hope to see DI there!

Yo multisport maniacs,

Time for the big one - T-Rex Tri! A big dino and a big field, 500 something participants! Yikes!

It will be a big award night! T-Rex overall and age group awards, medals to all, way cool T-Rex series finishers pilsner glasses given out in the finish chute to all series finishers, and another set of age group awards (More pilsner glasses so you leave with a pair!) to the top age group series finishers, 5 deep, during our awards presentation. Plus, way cool T-Rex statues to the T-Rex race and series first place finishers! Oh yeah, we have a couple shark fins to go out to the fastest women's and men's swim split!

Wave #1 will be an elite wave, containing all previous fast two-time dino tri participants, women under 1:24:30 and Men under 1:13:30 (Any new to the series, or only raced one of the series so far & fast folks who want into this wave - ask at the registration tent!). Elite wave participants are also competing against all athletes in their age groups. Click here to see the elite wave!

Check out the elite wave to see some serious series action. The series is scored by adding finish position in each race (Of only those athletes who compete in all 3), an example, our current women's leader, Erin O'Mara, finished 1st at Triceratops and 2nd at Pterodactyl for a score of 3, next place is Ann Marie Phillips with 5 points. This should be a fun tight race to watch with Ann a stronger swimmer and biker, being chased down to the wire by Erin who rocks on the run ... but anything can happen! Roman Krzyanowski from Team Mongo leads the Men's division with 4 points followed by a tight pack, Craig Dolecki 10pts, Tom Fitzsimmons 11pts and Kenneth White 12pts. There are a bunch of great age group races in play like women's 35 to 39 with Marjorie Verrell and Cristina Noble both with 11 points.

More new stuff: Live music to motivate you through transition and on to the finish, a tweaked 5K course that goes around the island in the parking lot then heads left, not right as you hit the road, (Not to worry, all will be marked and manned!) and more dinosaurs than ever!

Notes: Keep tight to the right edge of the road when on the bike, unless passing. Putting your bike in a low gear before you rack it in transition will sure help as you head out on the grass and up the slight hill. If you can, come early Wednesday, park tight on the grass, and thank our awesome volunteers and shop our awesome sponsors, Econo Print in Pinckney (Did you see the slick T-Rex post cards? The price was right), The Suburban Collection in Ann Arbor (If everyone buys a Saab, Chevy or Caddie from Larry O'Sullivan, the economy will be rockin'), Two Wheel Tango, Ann Arbor (My wife loves her new Trek Madone!), Alekos Catering, South Lyon (Thanks owner Ironman Mark Savedes for the great post race food!) Zoot (Great gear, and on sale with all multisport clothing today and tomorrow at Running Fit Novi. Get in Tuesday for packet pick up and hit the sale!) And last but not limping, Probility Physical Therapy, Ann Arbor.

Swim, Bike, Run,
Your faithful T-Rex Tri crew here at Running Fit
