Leading up to my Ironman I had some issues with my Achilles heel. After a lot of research and some help from other Detroit Iron Triathlon teammates, I found the following information that helped out:
Calf Muscle Strains and Achilles Tendinitis: Prevention and Treatment
Here's some stretches
I found out that my injury was probably due to a too high of an intensity on my speed work during taper.
I had the issue for the 2 weeks leading up, I received a deep tissue massage, and then I finally got it taken care of by getting ART (Active Release Technique) at the massage tent at Ironman Lake Placid. This stuff is like vudu magic! After two days in a row getting a quick ART session on my calf and achilles heel, I raced with barely any pain at all. The only time I felt my achilles heel running was going downhill. Definitely a huge improvement.
