Headsweats Visor/Hat Review

Postby jared » Tue Nov 24, 2009 6:40 pm

Let me set the stage for this review. I am a runner and a triathlete that sweats more than anyone I know. I have consistently had issues with sweat getting into my eyes and stinging them and I have tried many different solutions including running with a towel, using my shirt to wipe the sweat out of my eyes, using the bandanna-ish type solutions, and just manning up and taking the stinging in my eyes (that worked the worse of anything). I finally stumbled across the Headsweats brand visor...

My main needs for a visor are as follows:
1. Keep the sweat out of my eyes
2. Comfort
3. Looking good
4. Keeping the sun out of my eyes is only minor because I run with sunglasses.

Keep the sweat out of my eyes
Headsweats visors do all 4 of these requirements better than anything I've worn. They have a proprietary material on the inside front of the visor that is soft and very absorbent. Believe me, I've run in 95 degree weather and it did a good job of keeping sweat out of my eyes.

Comfort
I initially had concerns about the size and fit as I have a very large head and it felt a little tight. After many training sessions and wearing it for the run portion of my Ironman, I found it to be a perfect fit. It doesn't slide at all and it doesn't dig in to my head (a definite plus!) Most of the time I don't even notice it's on my head.

Looking Good
Headsweats has many different styles, which are all cool, but there's nothing better than getting a custom visor. With Detroit Iron Triathlon, we got custom visors, which were reasonably priced (purchase of 100) and of great quality. Our custom visors came embroidered with our logo and triathlon club name.

Keep the sun out of my eyes
It' a visor. It does it's job. The ones that I have include a black bottom to the visor lid so it doesn't reflect the sun. They also have a fairly large brim so it block out any stray rays from coming in over my sunglasses.

I have also used the Headsweats hats, which work great (especially for those of us that are folicley challenged!). The quality is superb on both the visors and the hats!

While I do not have the same problems as Jared, I do tend to "glow" :D when I run in hot weather. Also unlike Jared, my follicles are very much UN-challenged and I have dark, dark brown hair that gets REALLY hot in the sun. Seriously! I can't even touch my head without burning my hand! I've never been a fan of either visors or hats before, but that's mainly because they are too big for my head and do absolutely nothing for me. And not to mention that the visor doesn't do a damn thing about my head being so hot from my dark hair! I tried a couple of running hats from Brooks and Nike and I didn't like them as much as the Headsweats brand. The only thing that I would recommend is a piece of velcro on the end of the fabric that tightens the hat so it doesn't flop around since I have to tighten it as small as it will go.

The biggest thing I noticed with the hat is that I have much more energy and endurance. I highly recommend it and will never run in the summer without one again. I do use sunglasses as well, which I also recommend, assuming of course that you can find some to properly fit your head ;)
